When searching for the perfect spot to honeymoon, there were a lot of factors I had to consider: cost, ease of travel, time of year and weather, what kind of vacation we wanted (adventurous, lazy, sunny, city-life...), etc. I wanted a mix of beach laziness in warm weather with cultural and historical experiences. I also wanted to go somewhere I had never been before, where language wouldn't be a barrier, and where D wouldn't be bored out of his skull (he's not the type to just sit around on the beach twiddling his thumbs or, Lord forbid, read).
After much debate and research and wanting a million dollars so I didn't have to choose just one vacation spot, I narrowed it down to Belize on the Central American coast and Curacao. While I do want to visit Belize in a couple years, October is still rainy season in the Caribbean including the Central American coast. And all the activities I planned for us in Belize were outdoorsy activities. Which left me with Curacao.
This wonderful island is so far south in the Caribbean (only thirty miles away from Venezuela) that it lies outside the Hurricane Belt. So while the lack of rain makes this a more scrubby, deserty island and not a tropical jungle, that was perfect for us. Because you know what that means? Dry, sparsely vegetated land means...off-road tours of the island! Not everyone's cup of tea but my motor-vehicle-loving, handyman fiance D is greatly intrigued by this adventure and it sounds like a lot of fun to me as well.

We only have four days there but we will make the most of them. The above activities are exciting and we'll also hopefully exploring the Hato Caves, visiting the Curacao Liqueur Distillery, enjoying the local foods (Americanized enough for D I think =P), lazing a little on the beach or at the infinity pool at our hotel, and exploring the several-centuries'-old capital Willemstad. I can't wait! T-minus 11 weeks and counting!

yeahh...diving scares me too. :( i'll just watch nature shows and documentaries. lol
ReplyDeleteLol exactly. I just wish I could take wonderfully enticing photos like divers are able to capture. Still trying to figure out if I can get a waterproof camera on the cheap so I can take it snorkeling and swimming with the dolphins.
